Richard's Recommended Reading
as of December 31, 2003

Education is stressed throughout the WorldWideTraders site. After three years of trading of which two years have been focused on the best education and training options available in the trading industry, I determined which were the best books available to get the trader started in stocks. Here are comments about books I read on the topic of stocks.

Note: During 2003 I migrated from trading stocks to trading futures.  There several reasons I now trade futures.
I have a new series of recommended books on trading commodities, index futures, currencies and bonds.

Note 2. I wrote Chapter 4 of this book so I have a natural affinity for the book. This books looks at trading from an adversarial point of view. Tread lightly into this new business... it says for 383 pages. I believe it is the longest book on trading I know. Many of my trading colleagues input to Les's fine creation. My chapter tells you how to get educated at some length. Getting educated and trained in the business takes time and I believe their should be a formal college curriculum available for traders. At this writing, the 4th of July, 2001, there is no formal way to get trained. There are about 25-50 basic courses and very few intermediate courses. At this juncture in my trading career, I know of no course, class, seminar, or workshop I would label "advanced trading." If I knew, I'd take it!

4. Strategies for the Online Day Trader by Fernando Gonzalez & William Rhee

Price: $49.95
Author: Fernando Gonzalez, William Rhee
Item #: 10609
Pages: 209
ISBN: 0071351531
Publisher: McGraw-Hill Professional
Format: Book: Hard Cover
Date Published: January 1999

Note 3. My first trading instructor and his friend, William, wrote this very good book but I have not had a chance to read it. The book was published couple years after I took Fernando's course... but I need to take time. I know by intuition, based on his teaching style, that it is a good book. Strategies for the Electronic Day Trader capitalizes on the success of The Electronic Day Trader by Friedfertig and West and How to Get Started in Electronic Day Trading by Nassar. This book is strategically positioned as a more advanced electronic day trading book, at a higher level than both The Electronic Day Trader and How to Get Started in Electronic Day Trading. Strategies for the Electronic Day Trader teaches the reader the techniques and strategies needed to effectively trade in this exciting, fast-paced arena. The reader will learn how to electronically day trade the stock market safely and profitably.

5. Stock Trading Wizard by Tony Oz

Item #: 10927
Pages: 187
ISBN: 0967386209
Publisher: Tony Oz Publications
Format: Book: Hard Cover
Date Published: January 1999

Note 1. What do you read first. I am always torn when asked this question. It is a toss up of #1 and #2. Tony Oz is my friend and I have attended his class. He tells no lies and you should hang on every word he writes. He may not agree with me but I believe his first book is more valuable to a beginning trader. I have never met David Nassar but I know his former colleague, Scott McVicker, who is an excellent teacher. David's book (#2) is the best trading book I ever read from cover to cover and I read it the summer of 1999 after trading for about 9 months... before I believed I knew what I was doing. I found it to be better than books I had read up to that point. It covers what you need to know. It is my personal opinion that you should read both #1 and #2 before you put one of your hard earned dollars at risk.

This is an absolute must for any trader's library! You can't trade without knowing technical analysis and this book on candlestick charting is second to none.

8. Tools and Tactics for the MASTER DAY TRADER by Oliver Velez & Greg Capra

Retail Price: $55.00
Our Price: $39.00
Author: Greg Capra, Oliver Velez
Item #: 11221
Pages: 389
ISBN: 0071360530
Publisher: McGraw-Hill Professional
Format: Book: Hard Cover
Date Published: January 2000

Note 5. I have found this book more recently to contain a bunch of additional information missing in earlier published books. You may want to note that Harvey Houtkin, recognized as the father of DayTrading, probably wrote the first book on daytrading in January 1998. Since January 1998 there have been 50-100 books written on various facets of trading stocks.

This "Tools and Tactics" book is excellent for the seasoned trader. Read 3rd or 4th. Remember this topic of trading doesn't come to you over night... not in 90 days... maybe not in 900 days. It requires seat time to learn this stuff!

9. Level II Trading Warfare by Jea Yu

Price: $64.95
Author: Jea Yu
Item #: 12371
ISBN: 1931611033
Publisher: Trade Secrets
Format: Video: VHS
Date Published: January 2001

Note 6. Sun Tsu wrote the book, The Art of War, a few hundred years ago and I suspect, although I have not yet read it, that this book has been helpful to a lot of master traders. The book is required reading in every military war college in the world. Jea Yu has done an incredible job... Yu’s insights are awesome - and his aggressive trading arsenal includes...

- Trading "Basket Stocks" for consistent daily profits. Yu explains what "baskets" are -- and how they give you a tremendous edge over other traders

- Tools he uses to determine the trend, find precise entry points and his preferred method for placing orders in Level II trading
